One graduate's path from the classroom to a leadership role

Devon Kessler

Master's in Finance, Class of 2021

Devon joined our Master's in Finance program while working an entry-level analyst job and unsure of the next step. Weekend mentorship sessions and a referral through the alumni network led to an interview at a regional investment firm before graduation. Two years later, Devon was promoted to lead a small analytics team — a jump they credit directly to the connections made through PSU. Today, Devon volunteers as a mentor to current students walking the same path.

Amina Okoro

Bachelor's in Nursing, Class of 2018

Amina graduated into a night-shift nursing job and used the alumni mentorship program to plan her next move into a specialized care unit. A senior alumna in that same unit walked her through the transfer process and vouched for her application. Three years later, Amina now leads onboarding for new nursing hires at her hospital and still meets monthly with her original mentor.

Marcus Chen

MBA, Class of 2016

Marcus started his MBA while running a small e-commerce side business and left the program with the financial modeling skills to turn it into a full-time company. He credits a single alumni panel discussion on small business financing with giving him the confidence to seek outside investment. Sofia was self-taught in programming before enrolling and worried her background would hold her back. Jamal wasn't sure whether to pursue law enforcement or a legal career until an alumni career panel introduced him to victim advocacy work he hadn't previously considered. That conversation set him on a path to his current role coordinating support services for a regional court system. He now returns every year to speak on the same panel that shaped his career.
