New Peer Mentorship Program Pairs First-Year Students With Upperclassmen

Starting this fall, every incoming first-year student will be automatically matched with a peer mentor through the university's new Student Success Office initiative. The program pairs newer students with upperclassmen who have completed at least two semesters and gone through a short mentor-training workshop.

Mentors check in with their assigned students every two weeks during the first term, helping them navigate everything from registration deadlines to finding the right study group. Early feedback from the pilot group last spring showed strong results, with participating students reporting higher confidence going into midterms.

What the Program Covers

  • Bi-weekly check-ins during the first semester
  • Guidance on course selection and academic planning
  • Introductions to campus clubs, tutoring centers, and support services

Students interested in becoming a mentor for next term can apply through the Student Success Office starting in October.
