University Expands Emergency Grant Fund for Students Facing Financial Hardship

The Financial Aid Office announced an expansion of its emergency grant fund, aimed at helping students cover unexpected costs — from a sudden medical bill to a broken laptop needed for coursework — without having to withdraw from classes.

Unlike traditional loans, the grants do not need to be repaid. Students can apply through a short online form, and the office says most requests are reviewed within five business days.

"We hear from students every term who are one unexpected expense away from having to pause their education," said a Financial Aid representative. "This fund exists so that a flat tire or a medical co-pay doesn't have to mean dropping out."
